Only show products to certain customers

Is there a way to add a product but only have it be visible to certain customers? I am using the Separate Pricing Contribution and the first thing I thought was, add the product to the database but not to certain customers pricing lists. Unfortunately this didn't work. Even if the product was not in their list it still showed up with default pricing.

Basically I need a way for certain customers to see a product, but by default it does not show on the store. Your help is greatly appreciated!

hidden products in contributions

Doesn't work with latest version.

I second that. It doesn't work with MS2.2 and I asked the provider of the Contribution and they are working on other products. They are not planning on revising the Contribution for the latest version of osCommerce.

Anyone feeling ambitious enough to update to Contribution... :)?

Man, that's dissapointing. I really would like this contrib for 2 things. At the moment, I am wanting to add a whole new 'section' or rather line of products, but it requires me to list about 500 new products. As you can imagine, this takes loads of time, so I don't wish to add several items and create new categories and have shoppers see the new line of products before I have a chance to 'launch' the whole new range all at once.

Then, after Hiding products for that reason has served its purpose, I would like to use the contrib for what it was actually intended and give VIP status to selected customers. Gives them a sense of importance and allows us to create some kind of exclusivity on new products by allowing VIP's access to products a week or month or what ever before joe soap accesses those products.

Please would someone update this contrib for latest build of OSC?!

GAMER,

Are you not capable of creating a list of your files in something like Excel, then export the file as text? You can load it all at once into your store database and it takes a few seconds. Do you have access to phpMyAdmin?

Tryin' to help,

Hi royalfunk

Thanks for the advice. You'll have to run it all by me again though in laymans terms. I have access to PHPMYADMIN, but have no clue how to import from an excel sheet into it, or setup the excel sheet to be in the right format.

Thanks a ton

All you have to do is create a spreadsheet in Excel that has the same columns (in the same order) as the table in phpMyAdmin that you want to insert into. Once you have a fully created Excel spreadsheet, Save As a Tab Delimited Text File (.txt). You can then go to phpMyAdmin and use this file from the link "Import data from a text file". In just a couple of seconds it will import all of that data into the table for you.

Let me know if you have problems with this.

Good Luck!

That sounds awesome!!!!!!

I guess images would have to be uploaded first and the url's placed in the excel sheet?

Also, I would have to create a sheet for each table. 1 for products and another for product_descriptions.

What about relationships for products that belong to more than one category?

Sorry, I know this has gone completely off the subject of this thread, but this is a complete revelation to me

Getting back on topic - did anyone find a way to get the hidden product contrib working - I really need this - or at least a way of having some products available to visitors after they answer a simple question.

Any help would be most welcome!

oh well - not the news I was after. Surely there must be someone out there who has had this problem and fixrd it - it seems like such a logical thing to require.

Actually - thinking about it - it is not so much the hiding the products that I am after - it is not allowing certain products to be bought by everyone. Simply having an extra page pop up (for someproducts only) that would ask the buyer a quick question - if the answer is correct they can buy the product - otherwise - they are denied. Sounds a little odd - but that is all I need.

All the best,

Justin
