kingmidas Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 hi, ive been testing locally and i've pretty much figured Osc, but, now i'm testing it in the public domain, i'm using a host, that uses, cpanel (dont think there's a quickinstall provided), Linux 2.4.20-30.9, apache (unix) 1.3.29, php 4.3.3, mysql 4.0.18-standard, and i've searched thru the forums for hours now, some insight, but nothing to solve my problem. my problem is, my dns domain name hasn't been registered yet, but I can login to my account with the ip address, like this http://11.11.111.11/, what's the path I need to use to install Osc for the first time. I've tried all these, http://11.11.111.11/catalog/install, and http://11.11.111.11/catalog/install/install.php, and numerous others, the errors i get for some of the paths are the typical http no page error, as well as a BLANK WHITE SCREEN, which i believe is the correct path, thing is, it's not loading anything, my file directory is stored in public_html/COREFOLDERS (corefolders being the default files) do i need to wait till i get my www.mysite.com before I can install, or it should be possiable to just use the ip, right? i've heard of other ways to install, by unzipping it on the server, which Ill experiment with for the time being, but any help here is most appreciated. ~KingMidas
AlanR Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Wait till the name resolves if you want to have some hair left on your head. Take a break, go for a walk or something. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
kingmidas Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 yeh, true that, it does get on the nerves. but... Can Someone Confirm that it's not possiable to use the ip address/install to run it? that's all I'm asking really, as it's most likely the problem, but, it'd really like to know, if thats the cause of my problem. ~KingMidas
AlanR Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 If you've got direct IP access it should work. If you're going in via a special port, ie: 123.123.123:4567 it probably won't. If you're on a shared server you most likely don't have a unique IP. What is the IP? Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
kingmidas Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 the ip, is not direct apparently, it does have a four # suffix at the end of the ip, like :1111 etc., i'll wait for the dns reg to go thru. I appreciate the help though.
