Shipping Weight Issue

Hello All!

 

First off I LOVE OsCommerce! Easy to install, config, and get running. I have about 1500 items and importing them through PHPmyAdmin was easy as pie!

 

I am running 2.2MS2 on Win2003 Enterprise IIS6 server. Currently this server is running on my LAN for configuration and testing, then I will put it out for public use.

 

I am having one issue that I can't seem to figure out. I have weights assigned to all the items and have UPS as the only enabled shipping method.

 

I haven't made any mods directly to the PHP files yet, the only changes I have done were via the Admin side.

 

When I add an item to my cart and go to check out and select the shipping speed. Next to the UPS logo it shows the weight. It seems though that something is doubling the weight. I have 1 item in my cart that weights 5 pounds, however it shows:

 

United Parcel Service (1 x 10lbs)

 

I have tried this on many items on both the server and a different workstation.

 

I have looked though the admin section and can't find anything that would control this.

 

I would be happy to post any config information, but since I really haven't changed much, everything is pretty much default still.

 

Has anyone had this same issue or know what might be causing this?

You might have a tare weight in your Admin panel, in Configuration -> Shipping / Packing.

 

Check the package tare weight - it could be increasing the weight of the goods by a large amount.

 

I have mine set to 0, and build into the weight of the item its packaging weight. That was the only thing I could think of to send off goods which didn't have a shipping cost (such as tickets).

Yea, that makes sence. I will check that out in the morning. I do think I have something there...but I can't remember.

It might help to know that the tare weight is the weight of the package not including the product itself. This would be the box or envelope and packing materials. You can set the tare weight in the admin under Configuration->Shipping/Packaging->Package Tare Weight. Anything you put in as tare weight will be added to the total weight of your package. It is thus added to the shipping calculation.
