Lunetta Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 Error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/okulture/public_html/osCommerce/admin/includes/languages/english/index.php This is the error message I get wihen I try to edit the index.php file with the osCommerce Admin tools File Manager. I have looked through the Wiki documentation and followed the instructions for setting the permissions for this (and other) files using cPanel, but I still get this error message and cannot edit the file. I've tried a few different permissions settings to see if it makes any difference but it doesn't seem to. What am I doing wrong???
241 Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 it is better to use an ftp program such as ws_ftp to download the file to a local machine for editing then ftp up to the server as there are known issues with using the online file manager to edit files, one such issue is the removal of \ backslashes from the code which will give you a parse error, this error is a very common one especially when editing the index.php to change the text. What permission settings did you try. No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided. Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===] If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! Is your Osc dated try Phoenix raising oscommerce from the ashes.
AlanR Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 There is a very cool free tool available at http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/fileman/index.htm It lets you edit files on the server, copy, move, set permissions, run shell commands and lots more. It's a five minute install. One tip though, when it presents its install screen change its images directory to somewhere outside cgi-bin otherwise you won't see its images and icons. Other than that its a real simple install. Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
