Replacing Header

Hello,

I hope this is a simple question...

How do I add my header to the index page?

Sorry, I do not have to much knowledge with html :)

Thanks,

Solimar

You'll need to open up the file header.php, which is in the catalog/includes/languages folder.

(You can open it using notepad, Dreamweaver, etc.)

Make a backup of it first. That's just in case you do something you didn't mean to do.

In the file, go to the line which says:

 ? ?<td valign="middle"> <?php echo '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'oscommerce.gif', 'oscommerce or whatever it is this bit says.') . '</a>'; ?></td>

Now edit so that the code says:

 ? ?<td valign="middle"> <?php echo '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'nameofyourimage.gif', 'whatever you want the alt_text to say') . '</a>'; ?></td>

Don't edit out any of the apostrophes or brackets.

Save the file and upload it to your server so that it replaces the old header.php file.

Now upload your image to the catalog/images folder.

Your header image should now appear where the oscommerce image was.

Thanks Almirena. I am also working on another problem which I am not sure what to fix. I am receiving the following error:

parse error in www/catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 18

Do you know what string I have to fix?

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me how you can get the image in the middle please.

Solimar, if you post your code here, we could go through it and see what the problem might be.

Jimz, use <center> and </center> in the following way:

<td valign="middle"> <?php echo '<center><a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT) . '">' . tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES . 'yourheading.gif', 'your alt text.') . '</a>'; ?></center></td>

It will not be exactly centred, because of the presence of My Account and Checkout, etc... but at least it will be MORE centred than not.

Thanks again Almirena.

The page goes as follows (is the generic page - I have not done any changes since I downloaded the software):

So all of this is standard, well that is news to me, it does not look standard.
