i get this error after i've installed osCommerce -

Warning: main(includes/configure.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/<username>/public_html/shop/includes/application_top.php on line 33

i've installed osC many times and never saw this error. it doesn't make sence to me that the configure.php is not being found/opened.

any suggestions, would be helpful.

its the application_top.php that cant be found

just make sure it is located in that location

Gee, for some dark reason I wish this error was actually a common one. I suppose misery does enjoy company.

I've gotten it with a twist. The files appear to be in the correct places in the directory structure with the same permissions as the other files there so I don't know how that could be the problem. However, one thing I noticed is the double directory name syntax i.e.: [main(../../ ... includes/INCLUDES! ... ] and on the second message also in the following opening error codes:

means you have something configured wrong on installation, if installed, then your configure.php file(s) messed up. post here without the database info, username and password.

Okay. Thanks for offering. Here it is: [Note that I didn't have to modify anything. Username and passwords etc. didn't seem to hit these files. Installation was straightfoward in ascii. I believe I checked synchronization between local and remote files before the install but can't remember now. Would be nice to know what happened and why.] Anyway....

Just noticed that there is also a catalog/configure.php file also, but it also doesn't seem to have user info in it. (The other two I posted above were from the catalog/admin dir).

Does anyone know what this means or what should be done about it?

Should I reinstall a fresh copy to the server, then make sure the local and remote are in sync? Is there anything to check on the server, especially as my hunch is that the error is not with the uploaded files?

Is there a way to verify an ascii (or binary for that matter) upload?

you need to set these files manually, then they will work, else if you have nothing in your database you can do another install, just make sure the permissions are set properly on the configure.php files in the includes folders.
