Customer Login 404 error

Babysweet

Recommended Posts

I have had no problem with customer login, that is until today, I have gone through the forum and don't seem to see a simular error. After customer enters email address and pass then clicks login (I changed the button image to login, it was sign in, but I know that is not the problem) the page that follows is the blank 404 error page, I thought it might be because I altered the admin directory name, but after returning it to what it was it has not made any difference. however, I am using an iframe for the OSCommerse, and shared SSL, when I remove the Iframe the customer is loggedin even though I had to close the browser and open a new window to do this. I am at a loss at what this might be, because login was working before within the iframe. In the admin who is online section it shows multiple online entries from my computer even though I have closed those browsers, and even signed out. I don't even have a clue where to even look. Any suggestions will be greatly appriecated

Sincerely,

Joseph Seabert

at this point anyone using Netscape should figure out that there is more to life than clinging to an underfunded browser. I can not take into account what people using netscape are seeing only because I am not going to buy that browser so I can test my code, besides, the problem is not a browser issue

I understand that Netscape and IE are not the only browsers, but I am small time, I can not afford to buy all the browsers out there just to test it,

I will try to remove the Iframe, however I don't believe that is the problem, being that the login worked fine before, and not now

Don't have to buy it. But it helps to know how it works in other browsers. We try to develope for all potential customers.

Removing the iframe did nothing to resolve the problem, it seems I can not log out of the catalog and once the browers is closed and then reopened the site catalog still recognizes me as being logged in even though the greeter calls me guest. I can not sign back in, this has to have something to do with the fact my ip is being stored by the program and will only except one login at a time, I guess what I am asking, is when you close the browser shouldn't the temp data be purged. I don't think this is a browser issue, this all of a sudden started to happen, it worked fine up till yesterday and I have not done any extensive alterations to the code, only cosmetic. I believe the issue is centered around the fact I can not log out of the catalog.

Any assistance would be appriciated

ok, now, according to my admin who's online, there is no one online on my site, yet when I go there, and try to log in, I get the 404, page not found, the login.php is there, and it compares line for line with my back up, I don't think its the log in page itself, but the page that links after you attempt to log in, where ever it is trying to send me is not there, however I can not figure out what I am missing, please help, I am going bald now.

Sincerely,

Ok, I have narrowed the problem down, I reinstalled the oscommerce completely, and the same problem his happening, if I use the link on the catalog page to log in, it gives me the 404, however if I click on myaccount it doesn't, after I log in it goes to the account every time, like it should. but everytime I used that link on the first page to log in I get the 404

This is what I am assuming, if you know better please correct me, when you log in, say through the myaccount link, the program knows where your final destination will be, given that you log in correctly, you will end up at your account. But the link to log in on the index page, the first page you see in the catalog, I have tried to trace that link, and I think I found it, but for the href, is set to the wildcard %s so I don't know where this link is intending to send me. All I know is when I try to use this link after it sends me to the log in page and I log in, it sends me to a page that does not exist, hence the 404 error, now I have noticed that if I use the back button twice I get back the the inicial catilog page and the greeter says my name, where before it was guest. so my assumption is the actual login worked, but the page it is supposed to send me to is not in my directory, or something else.

I will continue adding to this topic till I find a resolution or someone finally understands what I am talking about.

By the way, I have reinstalled the shop, and the problem still exists, so maybe it has something to do with my server settings, I don't know, that is just a wild guess.

Sincerely,

Joseph Seabert

Hi

I have that problem also. I heard that it is a problem deep in the script of the site. It's not changable. The problem only arrises when you use SSL. If you disable this, you will have no problem. I don't recomend that you do. If you try to complete an order, you will get the same error.

The site is not taking you off SSL after login, and so with a shared SSL, your direcroty is not the root one. The page can not be found on the secure server.

Hope this helps, and by the way, when trying your site in Camino, the browser I use (on an Apple Mac (OS X)) the page jumps. (Works in Safari and IE.(Most mac users use Safari)).

yesudo any myself mentioned this earlier. It also happens in Netscape. His response was:

More power to ya.

Ok, what do you mean the page skips?

My earlier disregard for other brower makes was an error, after looking at the info in my sites admin I see that about 30% of visitors have netscape, and about 10% are not recognized, so, I guess I need to deal with browser issues.

of those who have visited my site, do you think I should remove the coverpage, is this the cause of the error, I understand that the reason I am getting the 404 is because of the shared ssl, but do you think that because my site uses this cover page that this is the reason, I could just put the age disclaimer as the text for the index page

I appreciate your input.

Sincerely,

Joseph Seabert

Sorry to jump into someone else's thread, but i am having a similar problem

I have just installed my store and when I click on "login" or "create an account" it goes to the page not found page. I get the same thing when I click on "My account"

If this problem occurs only when using ssl, but it is not recommended to disable SSL, what are the alternatives?

How would I go about changing the SSL to test whether this is infact my problem?

Any assistance appreciated

one thing you must consider, is first and foremost, does your host offer SSL? if so, how do you set the proper path to utilize it? do you have your own SSL certificate? sounds like some do not even know if they have one.

Before the ugly rumor that OSC does not work with a shared SSL certificate takes root, let me say that it does. I have several sites up with a shared certificate. Not sure about every host and how the shared certificate is implemented.

Okay, I know my host provides a SSL secure server, however I know nothing about SSL. How do I get a certificate? Does it depend on my host? Do I need to change any settings in my store to make it accept a certificate.

Any help appreciated

an SSL costs money, perhaps your host has a 'shared' you will need to ask them how / what you need to do for SSL, each host is different.

once that part is set, then change your configure.php files to reflect this.
