OSC and its equivalents

This isnt so much a request for help more of a statement (of what I beleive) and it may help some other newbies here.

I come from mainly a Microsoft background, if there is anyone else in the same position then here is a rough comparison (and a question at the end)

PHP is a scripting language (ASP is the equivalent term for microsoft)

MySQL is the database (MS SQL Server or more likely MS Access)

Apache is the web server (MS Internet Information Server is the equivalent)

OSCommerce is a wrap around app that that uses all 3 of the above to give you your online store and PHP is the bit that helps to keep it all together.

Its a bit of a steep learning curve at first but it gets easier eventually.

A Question :- (I have no intention of doing this but....)

Couldnt I do an oscommerce type thing myself (is there one available ?) by using Access or MS SQL database export it using ASP output and then host it on an IIS server ?
