CHANGE THE FIRST PAGE

What exactly are you trying to change? The text? If so have you read it? The first page tells you how to change the first page. :unsure:

Well, like I said the text itself tells you how to change it if you'll just read it. ;)

For the rest, start by reading the docs.

You won't learn OSC overnight. Be prepared to bang your head on the keyboard for quite some time before you get the hang of it. :)

I'm trying to change the text on the first page also..........I've already configured my products etc. and this first page doesn't say anything about how to edit it.

In the address bar from my website when I go to this page it says it's www.mywebsite.com/osCommerce/default.php. When I use file mgr and go to /public_html/osCommerce/default.php it doesn't have the default text from the first page in there anywhere.

Anybody have a clue how to do this? Thanks.

As zag clearly stated, if you read the text on the first page it tells you how to modify the text on the first page! Just in case you cant see it on your front page, this is what it says

"Editing Page Texts

The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis:

[path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php

That file can be edited manually, or via the Administration Tool with the Languages->English->Define or Tools->File Manager modules.

The text is set in the following manner:

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project...');

The text highlighted in green may be modified - it is important to keep the define() of the TEXT_MAIN keyword. To remove the text for TEXT_MAIN completely, the following example is used where only two single quote characters exist:

define('TEXT_MAIN', '');

More information concerning the PHP define() function can be read here."

Exactly which file did you try to edit? Someone sending you their file won't help you since you'll still need to edit it to make it say what you want it to.

Have you read the docs yet? You seem to be having trouble with the most basic of things and it might help to get a better understading of the big picture.

BTW....there's NO NEED TO SHOUT HERE! ;)

How did you edit it? Did you edit it locally and then upload it to your server? Exactly what file did you edit? Post it here.

maybe if you did change it correctly it could be a browser issue? try refreshing the page by clicking "REFRESH" or CTRL + F5, failing that, clear your history and tempory internet files. its a long shoit, but if your sure you did it correctly..........???

This is taking longer than it should. :huh:

Are you 100% sure that you uploaded the changed file? Did you try clearing your cache and history like Tjobbe suggested?

If your sure all of the above has been done then please post your [path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php so we can have a look.

It would also help if you posted your URL here as well.

I thought you said you changed it!?!?! :blink:

First off you have it mucked up already.

Change it to:

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Put whatever text you want in here for the front page. Make sure if you have any apostropes in the text anywhere, like in didn\'t that you escape it with a backslash like I put in the text.');

Do that and see where you end up.
