dave111
Hey I'm really new to oscommerce by not bad at webdesign and messed around with php and perl a little bit, but i've been searching high and low for some good skin/template tutorials for oscommerce newbies. I'm sure if i could find some good tutorials i could create my own. But the only sites i seem to be running across are ones selling themes. Can anyone direct me to any good newbie tutorials sites or threads? Would be much appreciated. ~Dave
wizardsandwars
There are a couple of template engines in the contributions section, called "STS Simple template system" and "BTS Basic Templat Structure". Other than simple css templates, you'll need to install these first to be able to create 'templates' for OSC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help. Which one should you use to create your own templates. James
detsouvalas
What are the differences between the two Template structures? Which one should you use to create your own templates. You can use both :-), that's why they exist!! Simple Template System : You create one file in HTML, you put some variables where you want to, the page is buffered, the variables are replaced by the buffered portions of code and the whole is sent to the browser! Basic Template System : It's more bound to osCommerce and maybe more customizable, but you need to know what you are doing, personally I recommend it only to someone with good knowledge/experience or enough time-to-play-with PHP. Becomes a bit complicated adding contributions to the catalog! Antonios
