No mail being sent out..

I've searched everywhere I can in the documentation but can;t find much on figuring out how to get email to work.

 

I have set the email address in the Admin section for both from and to. But no email seems to be sent from the shop either when registering a customer, completing and order and when i try and email a customer no email is going out.

 

Can anyone offer some suggestions?
