Attributes not getting to database

I am not seeing any of the options I have set up and assigned as attributes to my test product on the product_info page. I have scoured the wiki documents and the forums and just can't figure out where I am going wrong.

 

When I add an option name, it shows up in the area above the name entry line with delete and edit buttons. When I add an option value, it shows up in the area above the value entry line with delete and edit buttons. When I apply an attribute to a product, it DOES NOT show up above the date entry line. Should I expect the assigned attributes to show up at this point?

 

I have checked my database and find the options and option values but nothing in the product_attributes table (I have only 1 product as a test for now).

 

Any ideas where I am going wrong?
