halifaxstud
Dear members my emails from site within past week are always failing, emails to me on contact us are working 110% done usual thing of checking on sendmail etc as linux server all emails appear like below with just diffent email address obviously, all notifications of order update fails and new members registering etc " This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: [email protected] unrouteable mail domain "yahoo.com" ------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------ " my email from outlook express which is same as site was failing also, so changed the smpt server to smpt.ndo.com my isp's smtp server my host says the following about my outlook express emails failing which i think is maybe related to my site "We understand your issue. This may result when your Internet Service Provider-ISP-has blocked port 25 for outbound traffic, a design that prevents email spamming. This is especially common with large ISPs like America Online and Earthlink. To resolve this error, enter your ISP's mail server as the outgoing SMTP address, in place of mail.yourdomain.com. This enables you to send email through your ISP's mail server and still receive replies at your Mission account. For example: At present your SMTP server or your outgoing mail server will be mail.portcitysolutions.com Please change this to your ISP's SMTP server. Please contact your ISP to get the details about their smtp server." then i re emailed my hosts to say defintley problem at your end as i havnt done anything to my site to cause this and i know how to change smtp sever in outlook express etc thats not the concern, concern is customers not getting any notifications from my site and got latest reponse from host " You seem to be technically good. So you can understand this well. Your site do not have any problem. If any, we would come to know :-) We checked the issue from our end. The mail server for your domain is working fine. We tried sending mails using the test account [email protected] in your domain. It worked well. We could access the mails using webmail. We also checked using outlook, couldn't find any problem. Please check the account to see the test mails we have send. Login information ********************* Username : [email protected] Password : qwerty --------------------- If you are having problem in sending mails using outllook, the problem is due to the fact that your iSP is blocking the smtp server. So once you change your smtp server in your outlook express, the proble gets automatically solved. This is what is said to you in the other follow-up. You can test this by trying to configure your mail address on other machine like your friends or neighbour's that runs on a different ISP. " so does anyone know whose in the wrong, and if its a problem with oscommerce code or not, seen many people with same problems, but no one with strong helpful response my server info is below: General server information: Operating system Linux Service Status Click to View Kernel version 2.4.23 Apache version 1.3.29 (Unix) PERL version 5.8.1 Path to PERL /usr/bin/perl Path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail Installed Perl Modules Click to View PHP version 4.3.3 MySQL version 4.0.18-standard cPanel Build 9.1.0-STABLE 93 Theme cPanel X v2.3.0 Documentation Click to View my site is www.siansmobiles.co.uk email [email protected] any help would be greatly aprechiated, bear in mind i know a little about my site but i aint no total expert on web design/php regards jonathan

burt
There is a setting in "Web Host Manager" which allows the host to allox X emails per hour to be sent by each hosting account. "Web Host Manager" is the Admin section of Cpanel. So, if you have a large number of customers which is in excess of the number of emails you are allowed to send, they will come back: unrouteable mail domain "whatever.com" You should check this with your host. Maybe he will change it, maybe he won't. If he won't then you should look for a new host, making sure to ask if there is an email limit before you purchase. Hope this helps. halifaxstud
this is what my host said below, " Hello, The maximum number of mails each domain can send out per hour is set to 100. Also, sending mails using the php scripts has been disabled in the server. Php scripts usually sends mail as nobody. But this feature is exploited by spammers to send mass mails. So we have disabled nobody from sending mails out to remote servers. Have a great day :) Regards, Jisha Support Team "
cdamianou
You should change hosts. I had the same problem, until i contacted my host, and he changed the setting to 1000 per hour, and if i needed to send more he would adjust accordingly. Now i am able to send a Nesletter and email to all my customers. PM me and i can give you further info regarding my host.

Guest
I've got a similar problem - and I first pointed fingers at my host - but then I finally got the e-mail scripts for both phpBB & Invision Board working on the same host - I had to use SMTP for both, but now there's no problems with either. I'm still having problems with OsCommerce & an image gallery app I'm running on the same host - mail() won't work (I get bounce backs with the "Server not found" error, and the headers list the mail as being sent by "[email protected]") Is there a way to tweak the mail() script so has an actual e-mail address in it - so it doesn't appear to be coming from "nobody? thanks -
walkities
Yeah, I think that there has to be somewhere to change this. I have the confirmation thing set up for my phpbb board and it seems to work just fine. Is there a way to change the "nobody" in OsCommerce

discxpress
Hello all I was experiencing the same problem that some of you are. I couldn't send mail through the admin panel. After hours of trial and error, the problem was with Outlook Express. I hope this solve the problem for someone. All I had to do was change the ports in Outlook Express and worked fine. I included the link to this webpage at Bluehost. You can refer to it here I hope this helps someone in the future.
