How to create a shopping cart

Welcome to osCommerce. It is a wonderful program, but if you don't have much programing experience, the learning curve can be quite steep. I had never worked with php, and it took me about a month to even get a shop up and running. I did know perl and understood programming logic enough to figure out some of the command and syntax. It also didn't hurt that I am too stupid to know when to quit. Be prepared to work hard and learn new stuff. In a Windows world where everyone wants to click "install" and have a working program, the attention span and expectaions are limited. Untold hours went into developing osCommerce, and the developers have made it as easy to set up as possible. Be prepared to learn most of it yourself through research and trail-and-error. If you ask a question that is answered in the documentation or in the forums, you will probably receive instructions on where to look and nothing else. You can set up a working store with no previous expeirence, but if your store will absolutely not look like those of some of the people here. (It may look like mine which is no shining example of brilliance, but is an example of what can be done with minimal knowledge.)

The documentation can be found here, and be sure to use the search feature of the forums. This is a great group of people and they will offer the best advice available, but finding the solution for yourself will not only make them more willing to help with the truly tough problems, but will also force you to learn more.

Sorry for the long response, but let's just call it the six-pack answer. Good luck and let us (or more likely THEM) know if we can help.

Jason
