spiffin
Hello all I have a clean install and all's working well BUT I'm having a handful of complaints from users who say they can't see any images and the pages load very slowly. These users all appear to be running Internet Explorer 5.0 (mac). The obvious solution is for them to upgrade .. but is anyone else aware of this problem .. or of a solution (the obvious one being to upgrade their IE)? Thanks s
AlanR
There is no I.E. past 5 except for a 5.1.X MS does not intend to develop further versions. I like Mac I.E. It's one of the best browsers available and has features that only much later came to other browsers. What's the problem? Telling people to upgrade their machine is just other way of telling them to go away. Somewhere else on this board someone mentioned that Mac I.E. is one of the most css "strict" browsers. That is to say, it follows the css rules very tightly and will not allow errors that other browsers will accept. This makes it a good testing browser. spiffin
Hi Thanks for the reply. The problems seem to be specific to IE 5.0 (Mac Classic) .. there is a later version: 5.1.7 (Mac Classic) and y site seems to work with that version. The site URL is http://www.m2fbooks.com (a children's book site). It's a clean install of oscommerce .. with Simple Template System (though I disabled STS and the problems were still there). I really haven't tweaked the stylesheet much at all (just changed the colours) .. but if you try and load the shop page (Buy Now link) in IE5 (Mac Classic) it takes forever and then doesn't load the images. In every other browser it works fine (with the possible exception of Netscape 4 Mac). Any pointers as to what might be wrong would be gratefully received. spiffin
SOLUTION: Okay, I seem to have solved this one. My server was running Mac OS X Server 10.3.2 This morning I ran an upgrade to 10.3.3, rebooted and the image display problems in IE5 (Mac) have disappeared. I'm not exactly sure why .. but I'm glad it's sorted. .. ~
