edit payment method problem

On checkout_confirmation I should be able to edit the payment method by going back to checkout_payment.

This only works for PayPal and Cash.

If I set it to Credit Card or authorize.net, checkout_confirmation keeps showing the last selected payment method (PayPal or Cash only).

If I log in as a new customer and directly select credit card or authorize.net as the payment method, I'm getting an error "please select payment method".


All payment methods are set as "true" in admin (otherwise these payment methods wouldn't even be shown)


I did a few modifications in checkout_shipping, checkout_payment and checkout_confirmation (needed a few more fields), but if "cash" is selected all works fine and the values of these extra fields are dropped into the database.


Would I have overlooked a setting in admin, perhaps? Any ideas?
