webby70
Hi just tried a fresh install (last version 13.03.2004 daily snapshot) and I keep getting the same error  : Unable to access languages/english.php in /home/sites/..../catalog/install/includes/application.php on line 26 as this is a fresh install, I cannot understand where is the problem In the installation 'readme' sais nothing about special permissions or so, but somehow I have the feeling that this is not a "permissions" problem ... Any help appreciated Thank you!

I tried with permissions to, but somehow I can't get over this problem .... something is somewhere wrong with this install ... or at least some installation instructions? Guest
Hi Christine, My best guess is to set the permissions of your english.php directory a little higher. The file is in /catalog/admin/includes/languages/English. The installer is finding the directory called english.php, it just doesn?t have permission to open it on your server. Permissions levels vary from server to server, there is no way for the developers to predict how your server is configured so you may have to reset a few to get the system working on your host's server. Hope that helps.
Guest
You beat me to the post button? So chmod 777 doesn?t get it working?
webby70
unfortunatelly it doesn't work .... Just erased all from server , downloaded again and uploaded all fresh on my server. No effect! The error persists! I have chmod all language directories (in install, catalog itself and admin) to 777 and I still get this: on the 1st screen (by trying to run the 'install'): Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /home/sites/.../www/shop/catalog/install/includes/application.php on line 26 (and also 27 and 31). Bellow I can see the oscommerce window with the 'install' button. I click, and what I next get is (just as before): Warning: Unable to access languages/english.php in /home/sites/....../www/shop/catalog/install/includes/application.php on line 26 Fatal error: Failed opening required 'languages/english.php' (include_path='') in /home/sites/....../www/shop/catalog/install/includes/application.php on line 26 No matter which language I choose I get a similar error .... So ... what could be wrong? Is there any help file, any real guide throug the installation process? The Doc files I read were at no help at all so far .... And I did not find anywhere a step by step installation guide (I would also do it manually, it's not so bad, but I have tried that too and got errors again!) Just for the info, I have installed before some of the earlier versions of oscommerce and they worked wonderfully .... theredore I wonder what can be wrong this time ... 241
sometimes snapshots are unstable. just upload the files to where you want, then manually create the database and add the sql. then manually configure the information in the catalog and admin includes/configure.php files No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided. Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===] If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! Is your Osc dated try Phoenix raising oscommerce from the ashes.
