Hi

I struggled for ages with htaccess & htpasswd but with no success. I found many articles on the subject which had password generaters / FAQ etc.. but nothing worked!

Finally I looked in my simply.com web hosting control panel and found a directory password protect page and 2 minutes later "BING", problem solved!

Summary: Try your web hosting control panel (if you have one)!

Hope this helps :)

Mike

.htaccess an .htpasswed is the best security (so I've read :D) ..

I've had a hard time 2 to find some tools to create these files for me . But I've figured out a way to do so! And it's easy...

Here you have a link to a page that has working tools:Clockwatchers htaccess tools

1. Create 2 blank txt files (htaccess.txt and htpasswd.txt)

2. Goto the page page and create a .htaccess file (just check Password protection)

(Do have the EXCACT(!important!) direc. to your admin direc.. (Looks something like home/yoursite/catalog/admin/)

3. Copy and paste the info provided into your newly created htaccess.txt file!

4. Goto the page and create a passwd file (at the bottom!!).

5. Copy and paste the info provided into your newly created htpasswd.txt file!

6. upload both files into your admin dir.

7. Rename htaccess.txt into .htaccess (It is very important that you get these names correct!!)

8. Rename htpasswd.txt into .htpasswd (again name is important!!)

8 1/2. If you get things correct, you should see those 2 files disappear.

9. YOU'RE DONE!
