Cannot Add Any New Product or Catagory Images

I really need someone's help here as I've just wasted 3 days trying to get images for any new products that I add to display without any success at all.

Firstly I'm running osCommerce 2.2-MS2 which was installed via CPanel into the root of my server i.e. its not in a catalog folder.

Everything seems to work okay in that all the demo categories are displayed properly with all the correct images etc but when I try to add a new category and/or a new product the image that I select to upload to it doesnt get uploaded.

As soon as I go to add a new product I get this error message:

Error: Catalog images directory does not exist: /home/myusername/public_html/images/

But the directory does it exist and I have double and triple checked the CHMOD value for it.

Here are my config files

It's probably staring me in the face but for the life of me I can't see it and PHP is pretty much all Greek to me which doesnt help matters.

If anyone can see anything wrong or has any idea how to fix this I'd be so greatful, think of it as your chance to save a person from going bald :D
