AlanR
Yep. This should be "Pinned" at the top of the Installation and Configuration Forum and the General Support Forum. The message board db would be very grateful. ptrau
I think that there is a hosting company that is "giving" OSC away with their package but sending them here for support. If we can identify who it is, we can send them the link to the WIKI docs to use BEFORE they come here. "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!" ultratom
I know one host that has rebranded OSC and offers it via it's ecomm packages. PM me for details. Additionally one of the major hosting control panel software companies now allow hosts to offer OSC to their customers. I don't know what the support docs are like for both of these companies but I should think we need to expect many more newbies coming on the board. ptrau
Don't mind the Newbies...I was on once. It's just that it would be so much easier for newbies to get started if they just had access to the WIKI docs. I know the ADMINS frown on using the boards to "chat". But, I think that we can help a lot of people by making the Wiki docs and the contributions more visible on the website and message boards. I could be wrong....I often am. Maria Wilbrand
i got osCommercer from my hosting company www.lunarpages.com - no documentation was included, naturally. (it included osCommerce and Nuke/content management) this about 2 weeks ago. However, i have noticed they have taken it out from the admin files. Cheers, //Wilbrand
Guest
It doesn't help any that finding *any* sort of documentation is not very obvious from www.oscommerce.com. It's also not obvious to the newbie what a "wiki" is. The only reason I found about wiki.oscommerce.com was from these boards. The only way that I know of to find a link to wiki from www.oscommerce.com is to click the "Community" button, then the "www.oscommerce.com/forums" link, then notice the "Collaborative Documentation Effort" link in the header. Not very intuitive (but quite helpful once you get there . . .) 1) www.oscommerce.com should have a "documentation" link in the left column that points to wiki.oscommerce.com. 2) we should add "documentation" to the drop-down list of searchable indices on www.oscommerce.com. I wonder what the "referrers" list for wiki looks like? I bet we see that other than wiki.oscommerce.com, the top referrer is www.oscommerce.com/forums. -jared
ptrau
Don't take it so hard. The tone of the post was to help newbies....not deride them. Like I said, two years ago I was one. There is great information available to newbies, we just don't do a great job of creating "newbie friendly" links. I used to think that a WIKI DOC praticed voodoo. The links to wiki docs and contributions is at the top of everyone of these pages. "Aliiiiive, it's alive, it's ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!"

Maybe if the link was renamed to "Free Naked Pictures" it would help. Be fun to see the number of clicks after that change. Chris Dunning
I've found that if you search for any osCommerce function (tep_whatever) in Google that's the first thing you get...it's been very helpful to me. You can find out where it's defined, where it's called, what it does, what it needs...it's great! Chris Dunning osCommerce, Contributions Moderator Team Please do not send me PM! I do not read or answer these often. Use the email button instead! I do NOT support contributions other than my own. Emails asking for support on other people's contributions will be ignored. ibjesus
2 things... 1. It took me half a day of combing through the oscommerce website before I could find the documentation (including trying to figure out the software by trial & error). How hard could it be to add a Documentation link to the www.oscommerce.com? I guess very?? 2. Another company that bundles osCommerce in their web hosting package is iPowerWeb. Cheers! Daniel G. ptrau
It does amaze me though because the documentaion link is just above the support site link on the mainpage of EVERY new install. Key words: "new install" Tons of the questions come because people never got that far. They can't see that screen.
