threeG
Hi, I installed Purchase without an account yesterday and everything seemed fine. I played around with some settings today to enhance search engine crawling of my site. I turned on Prevent Spider Sessions and with apparently no problems, could add products etc. Then I made some minor changes to my index.php file to accomodate a javascript based rollover image in my main page. When I went to test it I had to use hardcoded links to some of my catalog pages. Pages generated from those links did not have sessions ids, even though existing session ids were being generated in between hits to my index page, the rollover image and some of the catalog pages. After toying with some spider simulation pages however I soon discovered that I was getting the cookie_usage.php page. This is odd, considering that my browsers are accepting cookies (IE, Netscape). I should tell you that I don't have force cookies on either. Unless I turn Prevent Spider Sessions off now I can't eliminate the problem. As such I can't hide my SIDs from the spiders! When Prevent Spider Sessions is on now my site is not generating sessions in the address bar and as such when I add something to the cart or try to go to an SSL page I get the cookie_usage.php page. Does anyone have a clue at what is causing this? I am exhausted searching for the problem. :( Any useful insight would be appreciated. I am using OSC 2.2 MS2. bptparts
I am having the SAME exact issue. I keep searching for fixes on this and keep finding nothing at all. I've tried every combination of the settings, as well as working with configure.php to make something happen - all to no avail. Please, please, please let me know if you or anyone finally figures this one out. I'm pulling my hair out here. ;)
threeG
Hi Mike, Thanks for recalling my attention to this thread. I make regular posts so sometimes its easy to forget some of them. The problem I was having was due to an error in one of the entries in the spider.txt file. In one of my entries I had a lone 'i'. I think the lone 'i' was being interpreted to disallow access for any user agent that had an 'i' in its name or something to that effect. You may have a similar problem in your spider.txt file if you edited it. It may not be a lone letter on a single line but could be commas or some other kind of format issue. Make sure the spider.txt file is all lower case. Eliminate commas Each name should be on a separate line. Periods(.) and slashes (/ or \) appear to be ok in the file along with certain other special characters. If it is not apparent which line it is, do what I did. Start with the all the names in the A's and work your way through the list testing the file. For example, I deleted everything except the A's (make a back up of the spider.txt file first however) then tested the file with only the A's. I worked my down from there. Let me know if this helps.
