look for this line to comment out

<td class="main"><?php echo tep_customer_greeting(); ?></td>

or you can go to your english.php file find

define('TEXT_GREETING_GUEST', 'Welcome <span class="greetUser">Guest!</span> Would you like to <a href="%s"><u>log yourself in</u></a>? Or would you prefer to <a href="%s"><u>create an account</u></a>?');

and remove the info between the ' ' to make it blank. Or you can change to wording to make it more friendly to new visitors by putting anything you want there

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.
