can't change english/index.php

Whenever I change anything in english/index.php, I get an error when looking at my site. Even if I take out the letter 'a' from "This is a default setup of the osCommerce project", I get

Parse error: parse error in ..../languages/english/index.php on line 13

And I did search, but it gave me about 1000 pages of results, and there was no answer on the first 5, so I didn't bother looking thoruhg the rest.

..or this

all I did was change it to 'This is default setup...' from 'This is a default setup....'

Your text should be between the 'text'

instead of

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is default setup of the osCommerce project, products

it should be

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is default setup of the osCommerce project, products'

Everyone...Do not use the file manager to edit any of the files in OSC. If you do you will end up with parse errors. Now if you have to edit any of the files use an FTP program to download to your computer and use a good PHP editor to make the changes. Then FTP it back to your site, overwriting the old file. Always check the very last line where the

?> is for blank spaces or extra lines. Just put the cursor to the right of the > and hold down the delete key(not backspace).

Im a newbie at this but I think you have to alter the text by using the File Manager under Tools in the Administration interface.

You can do it that way, or you can edit it using notepad or whateverever, and upload it. Either way, I keep geetting that same error.

Hmm, that didnt work either so i tried replacing it all with

define('TEXT_MAIN', '');

save the file and then edit it again, adding your own text.

define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Text added here, it should work');

Worked fine for me after i had removed all text.

You might have an older version that uses default.php instead.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?
