Guest Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I have only just started to look at osCommerce and I'm quite impressed with what's possible.. By the looks I'll be able to mess with the design/colours and all as much as I like, that's awesome - but some of the funtion of the thing I'm wondering about. To start with: a few (VERY n00B) questions.. (feel free to direct me toward some FAQ that I've blatantly overlooked.) 1. If I do set up a store with all the info on the items, shipping and all that kind of thing, can I change the credit card bit so that people are directed to a page with info of their order and a phone number? I'm asking this as the people I'm doing this site for are set up with an over-the-phone credit card ordering system, and take orders via phone. 2. If I do the above, will it be easy to 'flick' it back to payment via credit cards when they decide they want to get going with the totally online thing? 3. how SEO-friendly is osCommerce? I'm thinking I'll have a bunch of other info on the other (non-store) parts of the site to get up on the serps, but is it possible to get the store google-friendly so individual items eventually get indexed, that kinda thing? Thanks. :)
♥ecartz Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 The default credit card module just stores the credit card numbers for processing later. It is simple enough to uninstall the default and install a gateway module instead. There is no real osCommerce benefit to doing it now (otoh, I think that gateways are more professional; also, the store owner may want to check and make sure that their credit card agreement supports online/"card not present" sales -- some don't). Any number of osCommerce stores are at the top of the Google list for their chosen keywords -- these would be links directly to the product pages. The Header Tag contribution allows for the specification of Meta-Tags on a per product basis. Hth, Matt Always back up before making changes.
