TheBlueEyz Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Hey, everyone wants to get rid of the default oscommerce layout. I do too! How do i go about learning how to customize it my way? Please give me a good place to learn, im willing to take the time and listen, and read. Well, there are two main contributions that might help.. Simple Template System and Basic Template System. I am currently using the Simple Template System (STS), but now that I'm much more familiar with the code, I'm considering not using it anymore - for complex modifications, it is too restrictive (so is BTS). The best way? It's actually the hardest way - :( - but the best way is to literally stare at the files in the catalog/ and catalog/languages/english/ directories and memorize where everything is, how it's set up, where the html is built, learn how to modify simple things and then work up to complex ones. I'm about to uninstall STS from my system because now I know where all the HTML is and I found some contributions that will allow me to edit the smaller parts I need to change, without changing the bigger things. For the new user though - I definitely recommend STS. It's easy to use and very intuitive.
charlieworks Posted March 2, 2004 Author Posted March 2, 2004 Thank you very much. That is very helpful. I will make sure i install it. I wish i could see an example of how it works.
