How to handle large stores?

Can oscommerce handle all the required functions of a large store. What I mean, is if you have 10000 products and are shipping a large number of orders per day, can osc handle it.

Also, how are back orders handled, especially when you have one item in stock and the other is back ordered?

Right now in osc, there is no way to show they order 5 and you shipped 3 and 2 are back ordered. Same thing happens if they order 2 different items and only 1 is in stock.

Are the sales imported into another computer system to handle the accounting?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not concerned about performance. Horsepower is not an issue.

Logistics of operation is my concern. I don't want to get in a situation that I am spending more time processing paperwork and double data entry than I am shipping products.

with the proper reports you can handle it fairly easily. 10000 items isnt too bad, as I have a few customers who have upwards of 50000 items, one has a bit more

But how do you handle the following...

Printing all the packing lists

Filling and marking all the orders as shipped.

Do you have the fill in the UPS addresses by hand?

How do you get the ups tracking numbers back in the oscommerce to notify the customer and record it on the order?

Thanks for any advice
