Guest Posted February 25, 2004 Share Posted February 25, 2004 Is it possible to bypass the account creation process and most of checkout. When using the Paypal option Paypal passes the customers details to me in an email, therefore the customer does not need to fill them in at checkout and I also see no need for an OS website account. In fact I think customers turn away at this point. Ideally I would like the cart process to continue passing the order to Paypal as it does now, and OS to email me and the customer the actual order details. Why does the customer need an account and why does he need to fill in address and details etc. Does that make sense. I also use Nochex module and Snail Mail methods at the moment which are relatively the same. Any ideas? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Posted February 25, 2004 Share Posted February 25, 2004 personally i do not believe the customers are turned away because of having to create an account, it is possibly because of having to fill in customer information on a site without SSL security, as well as having to create an account on paypal and then get tons of email from paypal wanting the customer to sign up for more. the customer is limited into how much they can purchase without giving away their first born! that is my personal opinion. so, if you want to turn off the info, it would take some programming to do so. it all depends upon how much work you want to do. I guess if a site has no secure server it's all the more reason for bypassing the account creation. That way the customers details are secure as they are not transmitted across the bandwidth. I can't really see a need for the account process excepting maybe in situations where you need a delivery address or for Credit Card transactions.. Even then I'm sure the customer is going to let you know where to deliver. Of course he might give you a different address from the credit card owners.. as well as having to create an account on paypal and then get tons of email from paypal wanting the customer to sign up for more. Paypal has 40 million members and I can count on one hand how many emails I get each year from them. Discounting Payment notifications :) Times have changed customers are also now able to pay for goods through Paypal without signing up for an account first. :D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its a work of art and I really appreciate all the effort that has been put into putting it together. Paypals "shopping cart" is limited and keeping track of stock and quantities is a real problem. OSCommerce addresses this issue brilliantly and I do hope to evolve to the more secure payment options made available in the future. However at this point in time I would like to simplify the checkout/account process if at all possible. Thanks Aquatyer BTW I do use the Paypal Cart and I am trying to move to something better. Unless you just removed all links to the acocunt process and cart completly, and then just hardcoded a paypal button in the product description. There is a purchase without account module, but all it really does is make it so that the accounts isn't saved after the customer is finished ordering. pbreit Posted February 25, 2004 Share Posted February 25, 2004 Bypassing account creation would be interesting, especially when used in conjunction with PayPal where it would offer tremendous convenience to the 40+ million existing PayPal users. All of the data capture could be skipped (except perhaps zip code in order to calculate tax/shipping). Name, address, email information could then be retrieved from PayPal's IPN on the back-end. nana Posted February 25, 2004 Share Posted February 25, 2004 i have removed the password fields and replaced it with randomly generated hidden field and have the osc bypass the delivery address by making everything treated as virtual . then i have edited the language files to call the payment address, and create account to look live delivery address . and commented out access to the account . then i have the paypal form pre populated this way customer does not feel they are creating account and don't have to enter their info twice Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, what I'm wondering is this: Is there a way to remove all other areas except for just "name", "email address", and "password?"
