borzoid Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Hello folks, Please for give me for posting a question that has already been posted before (more than once) but the answers to the previous points did not help me understand just what I am supposed to do. I am running foxserv on localhost on my home pc. when I try to do the osCommerce "install a new online store", I'm fine until I get to the database import. I do get a successfull connection to the local host but get the error SQL file does not exist: /install/oscommerce.sql when I try to import the database oscommerce.sql. I have tried renaming the admin file according to the install instructions and also according to some previous posts but have not been successful. I'm pretty good with code but have never been able to grasp sql so I cannot tell you for sure if "it's all there" but up to that point everything looks to be working fine. If this is a permissions issue could someone tell me "exactly" how I set the permissions and for what files. I was hoping to relocate my site to a new host but they use osCommerce. If I can't figure this out so I can add my own products (create my own database) I wll have to find a different host. Thanks for any help you can give. Connie
♥ecartz Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I think that the easiest solution to this is to upload the .sql file with a tool like phpMyAdmin and not import the database during the install. This is a common error when using osCommerce with MS Windows, you can look for posts by jpf for a full explanation of what is happening. Basically, the MS Windows version of PHP does not read the path variables correctly. For the same reason, you will probably have to manually fill in some of the configure.php values after install. borzoid Posted February 24, 2004 Author Posted February 24, 2004 TNX Matt, I'll take a look at jpfs's posts to see what's happening. I did see something about loading the db from the command prompt in one of my earlier searches but than could not find the post again. Connie
241 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 If you know your paths then you do not need to use the install on a local machine You can just copy the files to the directory of your choice manually create the database and load the sql using phpMyAdmin then manually enter the paths and database information in the two configure.php files No longer giving free advice. borzoid Posted February 24, 2004 Author Posted February 24, 2004 Hi, I want this installed on my local machine for set up and testing. I am contemplating changing hosts to a host that uses osCommerce. They say that I can add products one at a time but I have almost 200 products (more if you count the size options) and do not want my site down while I add them to the new site and configure all the various pages/include files to look like my site. And if it turns out that I don't understand it or can't use it, any overlap time I have will be completely lost and my business will be down. Currently I don't understand it. I've been working with Access databases for years now and understand the relational concepts but the syntax is so involved that I'm not going anywhere. I was hoping that getting this up and running on my pc would make things easier <sigh>. All I really need right now is a portal shopping cart that is independant of any hosts that I can point my post forms to. Connie
