Ive just opened my oscommerce site Kerry Garvey Open Studio

Your comments would be appreciated. As most of my exsiting patrons are not as computer literate as the average bear, I have attempted to make it as simple as possible - but effective. it is also part of a standard html site with information that is commonly refered to by galleries or press.

let me know what your impressions are!

Love your work -- especially 'blue evening'. :)

Have to say I agree with the others on the color scheme, though. The dark grey and burgundy headers don't work too well together, and the colored squares at the top look more like a design element. (The only reason I knew they were links to the cart, etc. was because I moused over them.) Given that you say your customers aren't too tech-savvy, I think I'd be inclined to just get rid of them and go with the text links below.

Also, I think your layout would appear more uniform if you expanded your header to the left and right margins used for your infoboxes. As it stands, with my 800x600 resolution, the header is about half an inch indented on each side.

ok - well 8 out of ten dont like the dark background. - me and one other artist do - so I guess its back to the drawing board on the colours.

the three boxes are infact mostly there for visual, I just blinked in the colours from the original gifs, and thought looks ok ill leave it alone.

Thanks for your suggestions and comments as always you folks have eagle eyes.

Yeah, and thats a problem. I have made some awesome artsy web sites with full screen gaphics, great colors, and design elements that all come together nicely. However, they were no good for eCommerce because they were art- not functional layouts.

My advice comes in two flavors- Pick the one that won't offend you.

Mate.. there is absolutley nothing you can't do to layout your OSC site with "great colors" , "full screen graphics" and "design elements" that all come together. The output of OSC is just html, like every other site.

My point was that in 99% of cases, dark, cluttered eCommerce sites don't work. Look at the big boys.

But then you knew that, look at your site. Don't want to start a flame war here mate, sorry if you took it that way. I don't want to get off topic either, so I am going to leave it at that.

Send me a PM if you want to talk about it further.
