Guest Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 This file can be found in directories throughout the Catalog folder. What is it for? The server will not allow it to be uploaded because of the "." in the file name. Do I need this file? What can I do to get around this?
Guest Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 a .htaccess file is file that is used for apache to restrict access, as well as other information. I am pretty sure, but no one has returned to me on this here yet, that a .htaccess file on an IIS or other server is useless and harmless. Could be wrong though, so don't delete them. DF
devink Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 I would recommend deleting the .htaccess files that are in the distribution. They can be a particular problem if your ISP has a security system installed on your webspace. Adding your own .htaccess files may stop the functionality built in to your webspace from working. You will know you have problems when you aren't authorised to view your site. Many Thanks, Steve
