Hi,

My Database was deleted. Which is the best way to recover? Do I have to install again everything or is there a way to create again all database structure and upload an old backup i have?

Thanks for all your help.

I appreciate all the help you've been giving me through my hard process of trying to find it but now i am certain it has been deleted.

If you have made a backup of the database through the admin then just restore the database through the admin.

The same goes for if you use cpanel or phpMyAdmin if you have a backup sql file from the database then you just have to restore, unless the entire database is gone then you need to create an empty database and then restore your backup to it.

Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the entire database was deleted, then it is better to create the whole structure again? test_foundation database and then all tables?

Jhon,

Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately they can't find anything on their backups which makes me think they didn't do a backup on my site. They've been searching for 2 weeks and the result is NONE.

?Any advices?

Thanks again for any help.

Folks,

I have good news!!! After an exhaustive and very enlightening reading of this forum i could restore my site. Bad news is not complete but better than anything ;)

How did i do it? Here it goes...

I found a post from joeyjgarcia where he writes about an .sql file located in one of the directories that comes when you download OSC, i opened it with notepad and saw it had the database model. In another post xxGeek explained how to run a .sql file in PhPMyAdmin, so i did it and voila! my structure was there ...complete!

Then i did the same with the old backup file we found. Half of my customers and products are there now again, thanks god and thanks all the people that help in here. :)

Of course i changed the appropriate information on both configure.php files (catalog/includes and admin/includes).. took me a while but i did it hehehe.

Now all that's left is simple, adding the other half of products i lost...

Advise: Do all the searching possible in this forums, read ALL the possible questions and answers, take your time, BE PATIENT, you certainly will learn A LOT ... I DID!

Thanks for this forum

better yet, do a backup weekly to your local system from your store. also, keep a complete working copy of the store application on your local system.

From now until i finish.... daily backup, and then as Jhon says, weekly to my local system in which btw i have the store working ;)

 yes Steve, now that i re-read your answer sure it is, but... i am very very new to admin my site, i am learning how to do it so i didn't understand quite completely your answer.

I did have a backup sql file for my database (products & customers), but i didn't know there was also a sql file that contained the DB structure so i could run it. And also i didn't know how to do all the stuff. Honestly i was ashamed to ask how to do it so i searched and found ... ;)

When i come with new questions that i'm sure i will, i'll make sure to read several times the answers .. lol

Thanks again for everyones support
