Customer's Email address verification

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been having a major problem with email addresses. It seems like many of my customers either accidentally or on purpose type an invalid email address during registration. This results in a huge load of email notifications to bounce back and no way to contact those customers.

Is there a way to validate email addresses during registration?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Yes, in Admin under email options there's an option: Verify e-mail address through a DNS server.

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)

Other ideas for catching bogus email addresses?

Come up with a real, working solution and the world will beat a path to your door.

Well, the email that is sent to verify your email adress before you are allowed to post in this forum would be a good idea to be implemented.

Would that be too difficult?

Is there a way to configure osCommerce to send an email during the registration process containing a link that the customer would have to click on it before his registration is completed?

That would eliminated accidental or on purpose invalid email address.

Any suggestions?

Shouldn't be too hard.

Who am I kidding?! I am still working on my store after a solid month.

But I agree it would be a nice option and would help eliminate bogus accounts.

Perusing other posts I did find this contribution:

It may not be exactly what you were looking for but could help.
