im a newbie and just trying to set up a little shop:

http://www.slinky-designs.co.uk/catalog/

now when ever the person enters the shipping address and click continue onto the billing info page I just get a big error saying:

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: payment in c:\domains\slinky-designs.co.uk\wwwroot\catalog\checkout_payment.php on line 74

what does this mean anyone?

Hi I am fairly new to all this my self, but here goes. The message is telling you that the browser is looking for a page on a c:\domains\slinky-designs.co.uk\wwwroot\ this will have been your own pc that you have been running the program from. I think you will need to change this to the location on your server. It may be some thing like \catalog\checkout_payment.

I know when I had a problem it took a while to get a reply from any one. This may cause upset but I feel unless you have a real technical problem no body is willing to offer advice! Is there an oscommerce snobbery out there.... I hope not, as that is not the name of open source.

there is not an oscommerce snobbery out there and i resent you making any kind of remark here like that.

if people would take advantage of the search function, answers (majority) would be found. this one is listed in the documentation, these people have done real well in trying to put things together, however most people fail to take advantage of what is there and just post without reading the manual, or searching.

search wiki documentation and your exact answer is there

This could means that the file checkout_payment.php cannot load its classes. These are stored in another file in the installation. I'd give you the file name - but its not going to keep you from needing to go over your whole installation - checking each file in the archive you uploaded from against your sites files. (Especially the includes directory). In fact, I'd suggest starting by reuploading the includes directory contents. Either you didn't upload all the files (some sort of silent upload error) or a file was corrupted in the process, perhaps.

As for Oscommerce snobbery, no, but there is a heck of a lot of ignorance about a) how to use search and B) how poorly it functions.

If someone who thinks they know the forum search engine really well reads this - try searching on "blank page" sometime. You get everything but! I myself refer to it as the 'return random postings' function.
