TerryK Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Hi all, I'm still adding product and doing a bit of tweaking, but I'd love some feedback on layout, functionality, etc. My new shop KIDiddles is a children's music resource and I sell children's music (CDs, tapes, songbooks, etc.) in the store. Though I have changed the layout for the store itself, the color scheme matches my existing site. (Get your sunglasses on -- it's bright!) :) I have made major changes to the layout of the checkout and account pages, so you might be interested in taking a look at what I've done there. If you'd like to put through a test order, use the Visa test cc number of 4111-1111-1111-1111. If you'd like to look at the account pages without creating a new account, you can use: [email protected] with password of 'testing'. Some of the mod's I've installed include: - Description in product listing - Product availability - Header Tags Controller - Big Images - Graphical Infoboxes (kingcoffee.net version) - LoginBox 5.2 (with mods) I'll still be adding a few more, like FAQDesk and maybe category descriptions. Anyway, please take a look and let me know what you think. Many thanks in advance! etepalusip Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 looks great to me....i predict you'll do very well Pete
zoomer Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Good stuff!! Needs something in the yellow space to right of logo. Decorative background image or something - looks really blank on larger monitors. Otherwise excellent.
TerryK Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Thanks for your feedback, you three! I appreciate it. Zoomer: I agree that I need something in the space to the right of the logo. Likely my toll-free number will go there, if I can figure out how to layer it on top of my expanding GIFs to accommodate the various screen resolutions. (It's on my still-too-long to-do list!) :) Thanks again! Chance Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 *very* slight misalignment in Mozilla based browsers. Very very slight, and I doubt you can do anything about it. Don't let that detract though, your store is wonderful. I am impressed that you somehow pulled off lime green and pink in a store, and it dosen't suck! Good job. TerryK Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Great eye, Jason -- thanks for catching that! It was indeed a fixable coding problem -- I'd added cellpadding to the wrong place in /classes/boxes.php. Looks right in Mozilla now. Thanks for the positive comments, too. I'm pretty committed to the color scheme, since I've been using it on my site for the past seven years and can't imagine changing them at this point. :) Thanks again! etepalusip Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 not sure why, but the quantity option isn't working right....i tried to add 3 or 4 to a cart and it only added 1....i had to go to the 'cart contents' and update it there. Pete
TerryK Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Hi Pete, Thanks for the info -- it was working before, so I'll have to figure out what I've changed to screw it up... yogidegr8 Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Very nice site. I just placed a test order too. Every thing goes smooth and is discriptive. I could only see one problem that the cart contents are not readily available on the product page. It has to be called by clicking the top link. I suggest that it shold always show on in a box in the right border. That will help, as on adding the products there is no indication whether the product is added or not. It comes back to same page. Otherwise your e-store is very good and customer friendly. Yogi
TerryK Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 Okay, I figured it out... It's because I had the quantity field and add to cart buttons at the top and bottom of each page. When quantity increased in the top, it didn't change in the bottom one, and it looks like it was the bottom one that was passed to shopping_cart.php. So, I've deleted the bottom buttons and quantity field and now it's working again. Thanks for the heads-up! I did have the cart-in-box feature on the site at one point, then removed it, but I've been missing the functionality too. Maybe it's time to put it back... :) Thanks again! TerryK Posted February 17, 2004 Author Posted February 17, 2004 I've put the cart box back in and moved the 'Store Info' box down to the bottom left. Is that better? Unsupported country specified If you prefer to use UPS as your shipping method, please contact the store owner. thats the error for the ups shipping rate. Canada unsupported ? anyway thanks
TerryK Posted February 19, 2004 Author Posted February 19, 2004 Hi Eno, The errors that you're getting: I presume they're on your site? (I sure haven't seen them on mine.) If you're in Canada, there is a mod available for connecting to Canada Post for rate quotes. Check the contributions section in "Modules", I think. (Link at the top of the forum pages.) Your shipping is probably set as flat rate. You can also base them on weight in your admin section. As far as password protecting, you *definitely* need to password protect your admin directory. Your web host should be able to help you with that. TerryK Posted February 20, 2004 Author Posted February 20, 2004 If there's anyone out there with an AOL account, I'd love to know whether you are able to create an account, add product to the cart and go through the checkout process. ShopWebMall Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 very nice design, and fast loading, but I have to tell you the truth the bright color is hard on the eyes, you might need to reduce it little bit

devosc Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Hi TerryK, It's a lovely site, I haven't gone through the whole process but the first impression works well. If I may, I would suggest considering to the use some corner graphics at the top where the main body meets the header, the squareness is a bit sharp and I think the curves will alleviate this. This could also be applied to the bottom with a bit more lime enclosing the whole page if you see what I mean. Just a thought. Best Wishes. "Any fool can know. devosc Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Just one more thought, it might be nice to have a rollover effect on your buttons to that pink color, that might make things seem more playfull? "Any fool can know. The point is to understand." -- Albert Einstein
