Sales tax being charged for out of state customers

I have a problem that I just found out about today. An out of state customer placed an order, and when I was looking at the order I saw that they were charged tax, and they weren't supposed to be.

Now, my question is, is there something in the admin side that I can change so tax is only charged to Minnesota (in state) customers?? This feature seemed to be working fine before, so I'm not sure what happened or what went wrong.

My website is www.aplusperformance.com Thanks in advance for you help.

If you need to, you can create a fake order and checkout choosing the "money order" payment method.

Thanks again ;)

Maybe something changed in your admin????

Check

admin->Locations/Taxes->Tax Zones (should only have Minnesota)

admin->Locations/Taxes->Rates (for Minnesota)

Hmmmmm... Well it seems my problem is still arising... Not sure why either.

I am wondering if someone could possibly give it a try on my website, and let me know if it works correctly for them. And/or if anyone has any ideas as to what's going wrong, let me know! ;)

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just tried you website out and it is still charging your state tax for Texas.

1. Tax Zone : Delete everything in this section. Now hit the insert button.

Zone name: Minnesota ( spelled out)

Description: Minnesota Sales Tax or Retail Sales Tax whatever.

Update

2. Tax Zone Minnesota ( you see the folder icon at the left edge????)

Click on the folder to open

Hit the install button, make the correct selections from the drop down menus

Country: United States

Zone: Minnesota

Update, Done in Tax zones

3. Tax Rates

a. Tax Class : what ever you set up for taxable goods

b. Zone: Minnesota

c. Tax Rate: ___%

d. Description: Minnesota Sales Tax

e. Priority: 1

Go to admin/configuration/shipping/packaging and make sure your country of origin is correct and that you zip code or postal code is correct.

As long as this is the only entries you have in your tax area it should only tax those customers in that zone.

Good Luck

Hello bloodshoteyes,

Thanks a bunch for your efforts. I went thru and deleted all the old tax stuff, and re-entered it as you said above.... Now, I try to go thru the shopping cart with a California customer acct, and it doesn't charge tax, which is good....... BUT I also go thru the checkout with a Minnesota customer acct, and it doesn't charge sales tax either......

GRRRR.. I'm getting sooo mad, lol

Do you think you could give it a shot again and see what you come up with?? I really appreciate your help.

Hello again,

Well, I think I fixed it......

I had my girlfriend add a lot of the current products to the website, and it seems she forgot to put "Taxable Goods" when she was putting the products in the catalog.

Thanks again for your efforts. :D
