Make them transparent.

I think you would need to edit the button images saving as gifs but with transparency so that the white is not shown but your background colour is

Is your Osc dated try Phoenix  raising oscommerce from the ashes.

If you work from an existing GIF to get transparency for the white edges, your buttons will likely end up looking quite 'jaggy.'

 

How did you originally create the buttons? Did you use a program like PhotoShop or PaintShopPro? (Or maybe Crystal Buttons?) If so, you should be able to open the original source file, change the background to the background color you're using on your site and then export them as transparent GIFs. It would look much better.
