johnny_boy Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Hi, I am considering osCommerce instead of my own product. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. However, I have special needs (don't we all). I wanted to know how hard it is to modify the scripting, here and there. Mostly I need to add additional database table and and insert and track where appropriate based upon the product. I do not mean hard as in I need to learn PHP or MySQL; I mainly mean how complex in the overall scheme. If I change an element in one place do I have to change everything everywhere (not changin the oscommerce db columns, however; I won't do that!) I hope this is not too nebulous. Thanks for any input. A little more backgroud. The store has to keep track of families and children and some products costs less for children than for adults on the same product. So, I am figuring I will have to add some sort of scheduling in the database to account for that.
wizardsandwars Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Yes, it's very easy for programmers to customize. And there are over 1000 custom scripts in the contributions section, including one that offers discount to various groups that you define. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help.
