Help with Shipping

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have set up 2.2MS2 and need a shipping solution. I am not a programmer so if any of you have aa good suggestion and it needs to be made I would like to inquire of your services.

I have a client that sells, among other things, shirts and seat cusions. If you order a shirt from him he needs to charge $6.95 for shipping. Here is where it gets tricky. If you order 10 shirts from him, guess how much he charges....$6.95 to ship. If you order any combinatin of all 10 of his shirts, any size, color, design, or QUANTITY he charges $6.95 to ship. Same rule applies to the seat cushions.

I have found no contribution that comes close to doing this. If I need to have one custom written then so be it.

Please let m eknow any advice anyone has.

Thanks in advance,

vrant

If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! :P

I think you can also do table rate. Just make sure you add in the amount for weight or price for each item, then you can set it up in the admin area. This way no matter how many shirts they order it will be the same way to a certain point. If you have no set point, just use FLAT rate.

Thanks very much for the responses.

I believe I left out one crucial point though. The various products will have various flat rates.

So:

1 shirt = $6.95 shipping fee

10 shirts = $6.95 shipping fee

1 seat cusion = $8.95 shipping fee

10 seat cusions = $8.95 shipping fee

1 "other sample product" = $4.95 shipping fee

10 "other sample products" = $4.95 shipping fee

1 shirt + 1 seat cushion = $6.95 + $8.95 shipping fee

I am under the impression that the flat rate shipping module can not accommodate this type of fee structure. I think it only allows you to set one flat rate and that is applied to each product and then multiplied by the number of products ordered. I may be wrong about that but thats the impression I'm under.

I know this method of shipping does not make any logical sense either but my client feels that some people will buy 1 product and others will buy 10 and his shipping cost will even out over time.

Thanks

Hi,

You could use the "table rate" for weight. Then in each product category set a weight like:

shirts = 1 lb. price = 6.95

seat cushions = 2 lb. price = 8.95

sample products = 3 lb. price = 4.95

It doesn't matter what they weight...this is just for pricing.

Now, the 1 shirt plus 1 seat cushion would equal 6.95 plus 8.95 so that would work fine.

Thanks so much for the reply modom.

Bear with me here because I am a little confused.

If a user orders 10 shirts, will the flat fee module calculate the shipping cost as 10 x 1lb price = $69.50 ?

And if a user orders 1 shirt (1lb) + 1 seat cushion (2lb) willl the module calculate it as a 3lbs order and charge $4.95 (just using your numbers as an example)?

I just dont know how this module works and could use some explanation to help clarify.

I thought that you set a range a wieghts or a specific wieght and assign a price to it. Then if the total wieght of the order falls in that range, or that specific weight, it will return the correct shipping cost.

Thanks

oops I think you are right.

I see you want one rate no matter how many of one product is purchased.

The only thing I can think of now is that you could make shipping options and have one product with several of those like:

1 shirt = 1.oo

10 shirts = 1.00

Why would you not want to charge for additional shirts?

option1 is 1-10 shirts=$6.95

option2 is 1-10 cushions=$8.95

option3 is 1-10 samples=$4.95

1 shirt + 1 seat cushion = $6.95 + $8.95 shipping fee this should be irrelevant as if you choose a shirt you have shipping $6.95 and then choose a cushion you now have shipping=$6.95 + $8.95

How can I make shipping options like that?

And the reason i was given for not wanting to charge for additnal products is that the shipping costs should even out. So I will make a little money if people order one and lose a little if they order a lot. But I wouldnt really lose beacuse i make money when i sell a product. And this way of shipping encourages poeple to buy more. :)

Hi,

You would have to turn off all the shipping modules and use the attribute section.

I think you would be better off to have a table rate shipping and just charge according to price.
