detsouvalas
Hi! Trying to correctly setup the VAT related stuff for a Greek Shop, I noticed following. For each product I can choose the tax class applicable or choose no class at all. At checkout and payment, if the shipping country is part of the taxzone which applies the product's class, the tax is correctly calculated. If the shipping country does not belong to that specific tax zone, no tax is charged. In Greece, some regions have a different percentage of VAT, I therefore setup those 2 tax zones and added the appropriate local zones. But each time a product is displayed for selling, one or the other are not applied, depending of the product's tax class. In brief, one product = 2 or more tax classes, is that possible?? Thanx in advance! Antonios
Guest
First off I dont think you can have more then one tax class on an item, but you can have more then one tax zone on an account..... I think I said that right. Not knowing much about Greece this might be a dumb question.... do you have Point of Sale tax? Meaning, in several states in the USA each county has there own tax, on top of the state sales tax. I wisconsin Dodge County has a .5% sales tax on top of the state tax of 5% now, if some one from outside of dodge county orders something they get taxed 5.5%, but if some one out of state buys something, they dont get charged taxes at all. If thats the case where you are, then you would only need the tax class of your location, and not anywhere else.
detsouvalas
Nope ... let's put it this way ... I have to be able to tax the same product with 2 different ways depending on the national destination: eg. if shipped to Athens/Greece I have to add 18% Value Added Tax, if shipped to the Island of Kos/Greece I have to charge only 10% Value Added Tax! :( Antonios
Guest
Than you would be put the item under taxable goods, and set you tax ZONE up to add tax in different cities or areas, that way when a customer signs up an account in any given tax ZONE then the tax for that ZONE is added, not tax for that ITEM. So that way, if some one from Athens/Greece signs up, and makes an order they get charged Athens/Greece tax.. but if some on from Kos/Greece the get charged there tax. any way it should be done with one tax class and multiple tax zones. Vassilis
Hi to anybody that can help :-) The above instructions doesn't solve the Greek tax rate issue, so here are the data: 1. There are 2 different tax rate zones in Greece, 23% if product shipped to most states/counties and 16% if product shipped to some others (small states/counties, some islands). 2. In order for a product to take the low tax rate of 16%, the customer must be a business customer (not a simple home user) providing a valid business VAT and his business is situated in one of the regions/counties which are included in the low tax rate zone. The contribution (http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1240) can solve the 2 different tax rates issue, but it doesn't solve the issue of distinguishing business customer and home user as i explained above. I use the contribution (http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/6833) to insert the VAT field in customer's account and the contribution (http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4625) so anyone who creates an account will be distinguised either as business user (with business VAT), either as a home user (VAT not provided, not necessary). How can i set up correctly the tax rates? Any help will be strongly appreciated :-)
