Is it possible to add additional product characteristics (such as SKU numbers, additional stock numbers etc...) to the database (products table) so that the fields apply to all of the items in the catalog. And is there an easy way to add these fields to the PHP forms in the catalog and admin scripts?

 

I have tried using the product options but it doesn't look right, the SKUs aren't really an option, they are a characteristic of the item.

 

I could also just add them to the description but I would like to make them a defining characteristic of the item, not just supplemental information.
