Tourist Store Now Live

What a tough way to learn PHP/mySQL... but the store is done. It does not really pop, and after several months of working on it with the store owner, imaging several items, photographing several others, I am ready to hear form the community.

BTW, nod to osCommerce for the scrolling jpg idea :P

Any graphic/layout suggestions are particularly welcome along with sugg's about navigation and function, as I have gotten too close to the project to evaluate it from a customer's point of view.

Please keep in mind that the site is intended for the non-internet-savvy.

Thanks for your help!

The design itself is okay -- navigation is fairly straightforward.

I'm not too fond of the scrolling pictures in the header -- was alright at first, but after a minute or so, it was giving me motion sickness. :)

I'm a windchimes fan, so I clicked on that link. Five products showed up, only one of which was a chime. Why are the others in there?

You need to change the stock osC buttons to better match your site. Against the dark background, they've got a halo. If you're not good at buttons, maybe check out a program like Crystal Buttons, which makes button design a snap.

I'd have liked to see some kind of text product description with your products, rather than just the picture, but that's just me.

Good start!

I must agree with TerryK about the stock images, the Add to Cart just doesn't match.

I don't mean to sound too harsh but this is just my opinion, but I think that the scrolling images makes the site look cheap and cheesy the same goes for the Secure Payment image enlarging when you click the Online Shopping: Safe & Secure link.

I also noticed a spelling mistake in one of the navigation buttons, as jewellery has been misspelled as Jewelry.

Sorry for the putdown comments, but if you was to change or amend any of the things people have said in feedback, it will greatly improve your shop.

Good work and hope you didn't take offence to my comments/suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback... Unk- nothing harsh! If you had said, "Your site SUCKS!" without offering anything constructive, then I would have cause to be upset, but you have all given me useful feedback. I agree that the buttons do not quite work, and should be changed to fit. Unfortunately they are low on the totem pole.

The windchimes link has been fixed.

In general, I think the site it too "blocky"... I really want to round out some of the edges and give the site some visual depth. The store owner said to just get the site running ASAP, so that is why I went live with the site looking as it does.

And the scrolling swf... yeah, I hate it, I just made it quickly to knock an item off the shop owner's to-do list (kind of a joke)... and she liked it. Go figure.

Unk, btw, Jewelry is spelled correctly, but thanks for paying attention like that.

Again, I dig it here. osCommerce is such a great thing! Thanks again!
