ReginaStelling
Hi! I just unzipped the OsCommerce files, and I'm trying to figure out how to install... Question: Their are several files with no file extension README INSTALL FAQ CHANGELOG What are those files for? How do I start installation? I tried changing README to README.txt, and their's funny characters in it... Thanks! PS, My developer workstation is Windows 2000. I want to install this on a Linux/MySQL server at my hosting company...

Guest
These are all simple text files and should be opened by using any decent editor without having to rename them. Notepad is NOT a decent editor! at least use Wordpad, Word or my personal favorite UltraEdit (UltraEdit is a commercial product but is by far one of the best editors for a windows system I've used. I'm not affiliated with them at all!) However I do not understand why people create files such as these and do not add extentions such as .txt! Its always been a personal annoyance and I chalk it up as laziness or simply not knowing better by the creator. Its followed closely by people zipping files which when unzipped open al files in the current directory instead of creating a new directory. Please note that this is simply MY opinion as I dont mean to offend anyone!
