I have currently got paypal and am considering 2checkout payment modules. Is it worth me paying to have SSL when a customer creates an account or logs in as the password section is blanked out.

If so,I am concerned that the customer will have to keep going in and out of SSL ie.When registred and then a few steps down when they come to checkout.I would prefer to have the SSL checkout the whole way or just when it moves onto the payment provider.

What have other osc shop owners done here?

for a customer to go in and out of ssl, that part doesnt matter and if setup properly, it is totally transparent to the look for the customer. i will not put any of my personal info onto a site which does not utilize ssl, and i would bet majority of people are that way.

I agree with MIbble, and SSL will considerable slow down pages where security isn't needed.

I think it's a great idea to offer an alternative to paypal, and if you process less than 1000 per month, 2checkout or PaySystems is a good choice. If you process more than that, though, you should go with a real merchant acocunt and gateway.

BTW, I wouldn't pay more than $40 for your SSL.
