General Operational Questions

I am VERY new to OSCommerce - so new in fact, I just downloaded it today. I work for an ISP. We currently run a program which allows us to setup multiple stores - quite easily (Web+ / Web+Shop by Talentsoft). It's a "mall" type setup. I act as the mall administrator and setup the store. The store owner does the rest. We like it because it's a two minute setup when we ad another store.

 

We don't like for MANY reasons. My question about OSCommerce is: From what I can tell this is not a "mall" type program. If I were to have multiple customers running stores, would I have an install of this for each customer?

 

Can someone give me their two cents on my situation? If you need more information about what we're doing please ask. We would like to retain the hosting of whatever product we're going to use. We're also running Unix on a few servers and Linux on a few others.

well, first off hope you are not like most hosts who are a pain and restrict the customer from upgrading or adding contributions, modifying their php.ini file if needed, etc. most hosts have old versions and never change that. are you guys 'charging' the customer for having the store software there?

yes, you will need software for each customer.

if you are looking for one package which numerous customers can operate a store, then you would be better off buying the hign end software which does this and then charge accordingly. myself, i let the customers do whatever they want on their server, even give root access, if they lose it, well to restore it they pay if it isnt from yesterdays backup, else they just restore on their own and go for it . . .
