shane1090
Hi people, This is my first attempt at using e-commerce, so i expect alot of critics. The site uses BTS v1.2, so you'll have to go into OneTable section at the top. http://www.gamingdesign.co.uk/catalog I have totally changed how the oscommerce site looks, as i wanted my site to look diffrent from everybody elses, and the site is currently not taking sales. Alot of the pages at the mo look crooked, and most don't work as i have not managed yet to go through all the pages and change them yet. One thing i would like to know is, my company (GamingDesign) also has its own web hosting company, so we have total control over everything (plus we don't have to pay for hosting every month!). We have SSL, and a certificate, but i have never gone into it myself. Is it a case of putting all your files in your http dir and also your https dir? Anyhelp tutorials on that subject will be great. Also i want to add a login form on the main page and was wondering how to do it, plus make the site so that users can download the templates after they have bought them through PayPal - Can OSCOMMERCE do this without any other files or contribs? Or do i have to do it. Thanks for reading, and i would dearly love to read your feedback.
Guest
Hello, I just had a look at your site and don't think that it looks much different than the 'stock' oscommerce shop and there for cant really give a comment on what you have changed. The ssl certificate must be installed on your server then the only thing that changes is the protocol that you use to access those pages (http or https) not the actual directory of the pages. Speak to your ssl certificate issuer they will be able to help you on installation if not have a look at the veri sign website they have got extensive tutorials on the subject ( somewhere ) There is a contribution for putting a login box on the front page and also a download manager. Hope this helps a bit NImmit
Chance
Your slite looks a little different in IE than it does in Mozilla. Most notably your login box has default text size. Might want to check it out. I would be careful with that picture of the woman you used in your banner- Blizzard might be a little upset if they knew you were using their image for your company. My advice comes in two flavors- Pick the one that won't offend you. shane1090
Thanks for the feedback so far. The site is still heavily going through development. At the moment i am just trying to get some things working on the site to how i want them to, took me a while to get that bleeding login box to appear in table formation for example! As soon as i'm happy with the main page, i will be working on the sites content customizing that to the sites design. As for the picture from WarCraft 3, i was unaware of the technicalities behind using pictures (it was a wallpaper that you could download! lol), so i will be changing that soon. Also i was wondering whether or not there is a script at all that would allow me to put a list of all the products in the site into a little list box, like you would use for a form? And if this idea would stray customers from buying from me? I have searched the contribs, and not found anything like it, so perhaps it might be a bad idea. I have also noticed that osCommerce has a download system. I was wondering whether it would work on its own as a system to allow customers to buy a template, then once the payment was confirmed, allow them to download it? I have seen it in other osCommerce sites, but needed to know whether its a contrib or built in. Any anwsers to my questions will be appreciated! as long as their sensible! :D
