jpmad4it
hi all, i am new to e-commerce and ive hit a few problems along the way. Ive successfully got to grips with the catalog, and its admin section etc. Ive recently added SSL to my site, but now i need to set up a merchant internet bank account, and i also need a gateway that is compatible with osCommerce. I am in the UK and a want to accept online credit card payments securely from the US and also from Eurpoe. I dont want credit card numbers to be mailed to me, but id rather get a third party gateway to handle the online transactions. Is this correct, do the gateways handle the credit card transactions or am getting confused? I have a few questions and id really appreciate if any of you experts could give me any direction/advise on the following questions: Can you only use the current gateway modules that are compatible with osCommerce? Or are there add on scripts that can be installed to allow other gateways to be used? Is authorize.net a gateway? Are there any critical updates that i need to install, or add on packages that are vital to the system running corectly? If, for example, i sign up with authorize.net and get an internet merchant bank account set up corectly, and i install the authorize.net module in the admin section, would i then be ready to go ahead and start using the system? Is this all i need to do? I already have SSL installed. What kind of costs am i looking at for the different gateways? The parts of the catalog that use a secure connection e.g. log in, account, checkout etc have links that start with https:// instead of http://. Therefore do these scripts need to reside in the httpsdocs folder on my server or should they work in the httpdocs folder. Id really appreciate if anyone could answer my questions because im pretty stuck at the moment!! and as you can see i have a lot to ask!!! thanks in advance regards Jonathan
gibby
Hi Jonathan, I am glad you are asking these questions - I can use this info as well. In the meantime, from what I can see Authorize.net is a payment gatway and they suggest a list of resellers that can get you a CC merchant account as well as provide assistance with the gateway setup on behalf of Authorize.net. http://www.authorizenet.com/reseller/directory.php I don't know what else there is do, but someone who has gone thru the full procees would be better able to fill us in on the rest I hope. Cheers. Gibby

Monthly gateway fee $10.00 Transaction fee first 250 are free after that $0.05 That it folks nothing els.. I am a reselers for the following: AUTHORIZE.NET, EPROCESSING NETWORK, I-COMMERCE, PLUG-N-PLAY those ar all gateways approved by VISA/MASTERCARD. jpmad4it
so do you need BOTH a merchant bank account and as well as signing up with a gateway.
gibby
Yes Jonathan, I am 99% sure that you would also need to sign up with a gateway. They would be responsible for validating the card and settling the transaction (creding your merchant account, reporting etc.). Gibby.
