Guest
this will be my first experience with the CC processing end of ecommerce. i've built a shopping cart catalog before, but gave the project to someone else for the CC processing part. i'm rather confused about how to setup a payment gateway account, (i'm looking at authorize.net) how much do they charge and is it a setup fee, monthly/yearly, or is it per transaction? i've installed OSC and my host of course supports SSL, but i'm wondering the next steps i need to take. is there documentation somewhere that'd be more helpful than asking this question again and again? if so, please direct me to it and thank you for your time. aldaffodil
I use PayPal and am very happy with it. You don't have to pay a monthly fee, which is great for businesses just getting off the ground. You may want to consider them first. They are also very easy to implement. Guest
is it possible to disguise the fact that it's paypal? that may sound odd, but it's important in my situation believe it or not. also, are your customers required to have a paypal account in order to buy from you, or does it work both ways, or ? thank you for your advice. Noobish-n-stuff
nope, no way of hiding the fact that it's paypal. the customer actually has to setup an account through them to be able to complete the order. i would definately not rely on paypal as the only form of payment. authorize.net : $10 a month plus a min of $25 in fees. if you don't rack up the $25 they automaticlly add it for you. so basiclly $35 a month min. there is a setup fee, but i can't remember what it is. $75?? (pretty basic for a merchant account.)
Guest
in that case, what would you recommend for fast, easy, inexpensive setup? one of my hosts is offering a free authorize.net merchant account, and it says (a $259 value) in parenthesis. is this true or are they just trying to hype their specials? it still almost seems worth it if authorize.net charges a $75 setup fee. i can deal with $35/month, that isn't bad; if you can't transfer at least that much in revenue, then why have an ecommerce site, right? Paul2301
I suggest 2checkout. $49.00 one off admin payment, $9 referral and will take most cards all over the world. Has its own SSL which means you dont need one and they are fast payers. http://www.2checkout.com/cgi-bin/aff.2c?affid=96441 will take you straight to the sign up. To enstall it, simply enable it in you Modules Menu, Edit it and then add your allocated number to the required field , click save and your done. To use their SSL, you can download the code from the contributions on this site. hope this helps :)

Guest
also, about authorize.net: is it possible to rack up more than $25 in fees? is it sale-based just like 2CO?

Noobish-n-stuff
i use Axius for my merchant account, but i manually process the cards and i'm unsure how their gateway works. pretty basic stuff, low rates, monthly min or $25, $9.99 service fee, $50?? setup, i don't remember anymore. if you are interested and can't find them under Axius Merchant Services, go to the OfficeMax website. that is where i originally found them.
