Generate 100s of Main Categories and 1000s Subcate

I am stuck with an issue here and I am currently using Easy Populate which is great.

 

I didn't mind adding about 40 Main Categories but these have, well some

have as many as 40 subcategories and now I just noticed that these also

go even further to have another 10-15 subcategories of subcategories.

 

To give a better understanding and picture let's say it's an Automotive

part site.

 

We have A-Z car models i.e. Main Category BMW -> Sub would be, 325i ->

another sub would be.. YEAR / Engine and so on.

 

I am thinking should I pay someone (offshore) to type all this in for

me or there is an easier way to do it in excel or via mysql.

 

I managed to download via Easy Populate items as test than change the

category and than re upload and noticed it creates sub-categories.

 

This would also get even more complicated by adding sub of a sub to sub

and trial and error. If errors do happen and item is changed or deleted

from the Easy Populate the product is still there on the OSC and have to

manually delete it or go in via mysql and delete it or recover a fresh

.sql file that I would've backed up.

 

I also thought of adding maybe product variables, options or such for year

engine, and so on. Having Main Cat, Sub than Sub-Sub would look a little

offset off the front page.

 

Any suggestions or input is appreciated.
