Jack_mcs
I'm looking for critiques on My Webpage. It's not as far from a stock site as I would like but I have reached the end of my creative rope. So, it would help if you would provide ideas instead of just saying "It's just a stock shop." I don't mind the criticism but my purpose is to try to imrpove it and I really don't have any ideas on how to do that. Known problems: -Clicking on the Logo takes you to the base site. -Many of the images are not yet avaiable or edited properly. -Some of the original products from the SEC distribution are still in there since I am not finished testing those options. -There is a problem with losing SID's when placing an order that I cannot get resolved. Jack I'd ditch the images in the left menu bar and go with text. They images look really grainy. Good luck with the site
Guest
Hi, You've done well getting away from a totally stock osCommerce site, good job. Your site looks a bit too busy. The header has too much in it without being separated visibly, makes it look messy. The stuff on the right hand side also looks messy, too many different fonts, colours etc. Maybe look at moving the right hand stuff into the body text of your home page and I don't mean just move all the images and stuff. Re-do it in the body text and get rid of the clipart it doesn't do your do your site justice, the clipart looks cobbled together and detracts from the hard work you have obviously put into the site. I don't like the yellow fading into the blue on your header. Make your info box blue the same as the darkest blue on the header buttons. Either put a darker border around your info box header images to draw the yellow out from the white background, or change the info box header images to a complimentary dark blue colour. Good luck with the site What do you mean by "left menu bar?" I don't have any images on the left side at all. What browser/resolution are you using. I tested the site in IE, NetScape and Opera and everything looks the same (except for the tab bar in Opera for some reason I've yet to find). Thanks for the input. I had added some of the things to the header because I thought it looked too sparse. Plus, it was a way to get rid of some of the inforboxes. Same is true for the images on the right. I originally used blue for the infoboxes but it darkened the site too much. I figured for a store selling candy, a darker atmosphere wasn't the way to go. I see your point though and will play around with them. Guest
I think that it looks good for what you're selling - candy shops are supposed to be busy looking! However, I think you've overoptimised the images you've made, resulting in a lot of graininess ( maybe only visible at higher resolutions?) Also, the rollovers on the buttons at the top need preloading.
Jack_mcs
Thanks Dan. I changed the images to have more definition and added the code for preload. burt
You can always tell a "webmakers" store. Full of bloated and incorrect code :( Your site looks OK for the subject matter though.
