Smiling Buddha
Hi, Thoughts on this revamp in progress would be greatly appreciated (the store is live btw). enigmatic creations Thanks in advance, Ade
Guest
You got rid of your search box!! I wanted to search for velvet but couldn't. I would also get rid of the $0.00 if all your prices are custom and give examples of prices so the customer at least has some idea of how much it is likely to cost. Perhaps also offer some off-the-peg cloaks which hardly need to be sized exactly.
hilgie
Hi, The design looks a bit cheap and not attrective. I wouldn't shop here as well. The menu on the left is good though. First of all change the text in the middle. Make the site look a bit more professional. Change the "my account" and "checkout" buttons. The don;t look like links at all. Try to make you "logo" blend in a bit more with the site. Danny
sunshine-x
Hi, Thoughts on this revamp in progress would be greatly appreciated (the store is live btw). enigmatic creations Thanks in advance, Ade I hate to sound mean but you really need a good gfx person to help you. The fonts, gfx, etc are pretty hard on the eyes. I like the robe idea, but I'd suggest getting some professional help. I like the menu, that's neat. I'd suggest prices or at least rough prices. Good luck! =)

TerryK
Good start -- here are some of my thoughts: You've got far too many fonts in play-- and conflicting fonts at that. Instead of working together, they tend to separate the flow, and make it hard for a visitor to find a focus/focal point. I got a lot of mileage out of the "Digital Typography Sourcebook" (author: Marvin Bryan, Wiley Computer Publishing, ISBN 0-471-14811-3) which explains how to use complementary font faces. I don't know whether it's still in print or not -- it was released in 1997, but you might be able to pick up a used copy on a site like abebooks.com if it is out of print. You might also try harmonizing your color scheme a bit more. The purple/blue hues of the header don't work so well with the yellow background on the main page. You've got these gorgeous maroon cloaks in your logo. Why not work a color scheme around that somehow? There are some excellent sites for finding complementing colors -- search google and you should find them. I'd suggest making all of your images -- at least your thumbnails -- the same width. The pictures are coming out very jaggy because they're being auto-sized by the program (I'm guessing), so they don't display very well. Take some time to make the presentation consistent, and the end result will be worth it! You've got some interesting costumes -- I wish you well with your business! Smiling Buddha
a few more changes...what do people think re. color scheme? Thanks, Ade (Edmonton)
zoomer
With all due respect if you want to generate sales from this sight you need to tear it down and rebuild from scratch. It's ugly in the worst sense. Look at any serious e-commerce sight - nobobdy uses background patterns they are too distracting. The color scheme is all over the place and the fonts are terrible. Get a design book. Go find 3 e-commerce sites that your like personally and imitate what they have done to some extent. Look at how simple Amazon's layout and color scheme is - nothing fancy but it works. OsCommmerce is tough to work with because it takes a lot of extra effort to make the site look presentable. Good luck
tim_o_boy
One major point about selling online is creating confidence with potential buyers. The immediate impression that this site gives is that it has been created by an amateur. No way on earth would I get my credit card out to buy any of your products. But the thing is, your products are probably great, so it's a shame the site lets them down. I think a previous poster's advice was very good about employing a designer to give it a make over. Shouldn't cost much and would make the difference between actually selling something and just having a site that is effectively useless. Just constructive criticism and you're dead right to ask for opinions. Good luck.

sunshine-x
Thanks for the comments. Done some quick changes - any thoughts? I like the changes - looks better already. The big capitals on each paragraph is distracting, it makes it hard to read. Thats just me though. Since people will really want to see your items before buying, perhaps you could add more close-up and bigger images of the cloaks. Also, it couldn't hurt to advertise on google adwords etc. good luck, looking better so far! =)
Smiling Buddha
Thanks John, I had problems working out where to change each font in the .css but worked it out. I wanted to have something 'ornate' on the home page, so that's where the idea for the big caps came from. Looking at it now, it definetly doesn't work. I am using AdWords, but the CTR is quite low and I can't afford to up the cost quite yet. Thanks again for yours and everybody elses no-holds barred comments.
